A Holiday Mix! And a Request.....

Happy Holidays! I have a gift and a request from everyone who sees this. The gift is in the form of a new mix, I dare to say my best work so far. Chrono Trigger

My brother Martin and I were huge video game fans when we were kids. Lots of RPGs, fighting games, PC FPSs, strategy games, you name it. But one of the games that stands out is of course:

Chrono Trigger.

I have always been a fan of the music, downloading the midis online as soon as they were available. Early on in my musical journey, I would drop the midis into garage band (my starting program) and re-arrange them with rad synths and huge drums. It really only sounded so cool, so I never did much with it other than jam it every now and then.

I even tried to arrange a Chrono Trigger album writing vision quest thing. Didn't quite work out. Not everyone like Chrono Trigger as much as I do.

Finally, last spring break, Martin and I had enough free time to actually work on some jams together. We took the midi stems from some Chrono Trigger songs we especially liked and dropped them into ableton. From there we chopped, warped, and arranged new tunes out of what we had. Lots of different methods are used. Some songs are just songs from the game filtered all crazy, others are re-arrangements with extra spices, some are totally new jams.

I'm really down with this stuff as it shows the culmination of what I have been working on and I finally get to release some quality Chrono Trigger inspired music.

Maan!

So TLUV and I have been working on a drum and bass mixtape which remixes mainly older southern hip hop like Lil Flip, Outkast, Slim Thug, along with some other gems from back in the day. To tide everyone over until we get this thing pressed, I have a remix of Big Moe's "Maan" that I can't wait to hear in the club.

Spring/Summer 2009 Mixes

As the semester came to a close, I finally had time to work on some music and some new remixes. I started remixing (i hate the term "mashing") various songs from different genres together, seeing what worked and what did not. Baile funk works well with big room techno, for example. I dropped this mix which contains some of these creations.

Beatport Remix

So Beatport had a remix contest for some Fedde La Grand song, so I decided, oh why not? I made like 5 little diddys and send some out to friends to work on. Nothing ever came of that, so I just worked on my own version. It shows my first real foray into progressive and more techno kinda sounds.

The Obamatape

So after I returned from Japan, I had finished the Skeetape and had a bunch of new music I found from Japan. I got heavy into baile and even some punjabi music. So now I needed to try and mix all these styles together. We wanted to promote Obama too, so The Obamatape came to be.

Not my favorite stuff I have done. Don't know why. I guess this was more an experiement in mixing different styles and full songs as opposed to the loop based way I had been working before. First song by my brother, Martin, on a mix too.

The Skeetape

With my new found remixing powers, Travis "also known as TLUV" and I decided it was time to take the dance world by storm with our line of mixtapes. We had recently heard the The Party Mixtape vol. 5 which blew our minds, with that in mind we created: The Skeetape. Dustin got in on this one as did rory, laying down various synths. This mix takes us towards mixing more recent hip hop with kind of club grooves. It marks the first appearance of Baile on our mixes w/ Tire a Camisa.

I like this mix alot, I mixed it while in Japan and would test songs on the kids who would party with us. A good time. :)

Let's start from the beginning...

Once I moved over from Logic Pro to Ableton Live 6 there was no stopping me. These are my first attempts at remixing. It it mainly just loops arranged under the acapellas. At this point my goal in djing was to fuse together the sounds of 90's hip hop and r&b with updated dance production.
